It is a little bit outside from Prog-Rock ... the new Project of Bass-Player Richard Addison, who played on the first two CDs of the Canadian Prog-Band “Mystery”.

With the help of a lot of for me, unknown but absolutely great musicians, we hear a pure instrumental album with a jazzy mix of great guitar-parts, a very good drumming, a lot of saxophone and a little bit of violin which remember me some very strong Eddie Jobson in his times with “Curved Air”. Beneath the groovy and sometimes relaxing rhythm, it is in my opinion the greatest and clearest production as we can find very rarely in these times. Intelligent music, but for the spoilt prog-ears the music of the Addison Project will not be as usual.

I like mostly the opener “Sleepwalking” and the last one “Controlled Freedom” which sounds like the final scene of a Humphrey Bogart film, when the heroes says goodbye to his girl after a long rainy night walking down the empty streets of New York. Very kitschy but full of feeling.

Ein bißchen abseits vom Prog ist das neue Projekt von Bassist Richard Addison, der auf den ersten zwei CDs der kanadischen Prog-Band Mystery zu hören war. Mit einem Berg von mir relativ unbekannten aber eindeutig hervorragenden Musikern gibt es ein rein instrumentales Album mit einem ziemlich jazzig angehauchten Mix aus tollen Gitarrenparts, einem hervorragendem Schlagzeug, viel Saxophon und ab und zu einer Violine, die mich stark an Eddie Jobson aus seiner Curved Air - Zeit erinnert.

Auffallend ist neben dem teilweise wirklich groovenden und manchmal relaxten Rhythmus vor allem die glasklare Produktion, wie ich sie leider nur noch selten höre. Aber wie gesagt ... für verwöhnte Prog-Ohren dürfte das Addison Project schon gewöhnungsbedürftig sein. Intelligente Musik, die nicht zum nebenherhören geeignet ist. Anspieltipps sind vor allem der Opener 'Sleepwalking' sowie "Controlled Freedom", das klingt wie aus einer Schluß-Szene eines Humphrey Bogart- Filmes, wenn der Filmheld nach einer durchgezechten Nacht sich von seinem Mädel verabschiedet und durch das menschenleere und verregnete New York die Straße runtergeht. Richtig schön kitschig und gefühlvoll.
