English version Original version (Italian) Richard Addison is a Canadian bassist which has navigated enough on numerous experiences of session-man, involved in several roles from music arranger and composer for television and also present in progressive rock with groups such as Mystery and Sojourn. On his latest work, an interesting disc named Addison Project, in which the bassist is getting collaboration from ten other musicians who alternate themselves on the several tracks of the cd. In little more than 45 minutes, we can listen to an entire instrumental CD which Addison and companions accomplished a refined and winning jazz-rock album.Not disturbing but decidedly pleasant in which they do not lack wriggles of class and happy intuitions. The sound is enough modern, the rhytm section is always in evidence and the musicians have a lot of space. Between guitars and sax, the insertions of violin and the elegant accompanyment of piano and keyboards represent the main points of force. The quality of the nine present compositions in "Mood Swings" is enough satisfactory and the merit goes to the compositions of Addison, being able to create quite articulate intriguers melodies which are never excessives and too complex with the help of the musicians finest interactions. This project, like pointed out, cannot be defined phenomenal, neither has the pretention of being innovative but the professionalism that emerges, the fluency of music, the varieties of sounds and several atmospheres are all elements that offer numerous cues of interest to all progressive music passionates orientiented towards jazz. Peppe di Spirito / Arlequins (October 2003) <-Previous review Next review -> Richard Addison è un bassista canadese abbastanza navigato, che può vantare numerose esperienze di session-man, vari lavori da arrangiatore e da compositore di musica per la televisione ed anche la presenza in progetti di progressive rock con i gruppi Mystery e Sojourn. La sua più recente prova discografica è rappresentata da questo interessante disco uscito a nome Addison Project, in cui il bassista è coadiuvato da ben dieci musicisti che si alternano nelle varie tracce del cd. In poco più di tre quarti d'ora possiamo ascoltare un lavoro interamente strumentale con il quale Addison e compagni si cimentano in un jazz-rock molto raffinato ed accattivante.Si tratta di una prova non sconvolgente ed un po' discontinua, ma decisamente piacevole ed in cui non mancano guizzi di classe e felici intuizioni. Il sound è abbastanza moderno, il basso sempre in evidenza ed i musicisti intervenuti si danno un gran da fare in una prova in cui gli intarsi semiaucistici tra chitarre e fiati, gli indovinati inserimenti di violino e l'elegante accompagnamento di piano e tastiere rappresentano i principali punti di forza. La qualità delle nove composizioni presenti in "Mood swings" è abbastanza soddisfacente ed il merito va sia alla bravura compositiva di Addison, capace di creare intriganti melodie all'interno di brani ben articolati, ma mai eccessivamente complessi, sia alla discreta interazione di musicisti preparati. Questo progetto, come accennato, non può definirsi fenomenale, né ha la pretesa di essere innovativo, ma la professionalità che emerge, la scorrevolezza della musica, la varietà timbrica, e le atmosfere spesso notturne sono tutti elementi che offrono numerosi spunti di interesse, soprattutto per gli appassionati del progressive maggiormente orientato verso il jazz.
