Hamadryad is a group of musicians all driven by the same passion: musical creation. Their music tastefully blends progressive and classic rock, with a touch of cinematic vision, taking the listener on a musical adventure. (In classical mythology, the Hamadryad was a wood nymph fabled to live and die with a tree to which she was attached. Her mission was to be the link between the mortal and immortal entities.) Hamadryad’s musical mission is to take their audience on a journey that transcends passing trends.

Initially, as a quintet, they released in 2001 “Conservation Of Mass” (UNCR-5002, Unicorn Records). This first effort brought much critical acclaim to the band. But after the departure of their lead singer, Hamadryad reinvented itself as a quartet and released “Safe in Conformity” in May 2005 (UNCR-5020, Unicorn Digital). This second album was well received by the public and the critics and opened doors for them to play festivals in both the US and Europe.

In June 2007, still a quartet, Hamadryad released their first live album, the much anticipated “Live in France” (UNCR-5046, Unicorn Digital). All the songs on this album were performed and recorded in August 2006, at the Crescendo festival in St-Palais-Sur-Mer, France.

With its help, Hamadryad opened for the legendary Deep Purple, at the Bell center in Montreal and the Pavilion de la Jeunesse in Quebec City, and went back to Europe for two memorable shows, one in Switzerland and one in Belgium.

With the unfortunate departure of their drummer, Hamadryad decided to reinvent itself again and hired 2 new members. Going back to the quintet formula, with lead singer Jean-Philippe Major and drummer Nick Turcotte, their new album “Intrusion”, released in January 2010 (UNCR-5071, Unicorn Digital) is an impressive demonstration that this band is in constant evolution and their passion for music has not faded at all. Hamadryad already has confirmed gigs in Europe and plan to play extensively throughout 2010 to promote this new CD.






Hamadryad est un groupe de musiciens menés par la même passion : la création musicale. Leur musique mélange judicieusement le rock progressif et classique avec une touche de vision cinématique transportant l’auditeur dans une aventure musicale. (Dans la mythologie classique, l’Hamadryad était une nymphe des bois qui vivait et mourrait en symbiose avec l’arbre auquel elle était reliée. Sa mission était d’assurer la liaison entre les entités mortelles et immortelles.) La mission musicale d’Hamadryad est d’offrir un voyage qui transcende les modes passagères.

En Juin 2007, toujours en tant que quartet, Hamadryad a lancé son premier enregistrement en concert, le très attendu “Live in France“ (UNCR-5046, Unicorn Digital). Toutes les chansons de cet album ont été tiré de leur performance, en août 2006, au festival Crescendo à St-Palais-sur-mer en France.

Grâce à celui-ci, Hamadryad a joué en première partie des légendaires Deep Purple, au Centre Bell de Montréal et au Pavillon de la Jeunesse à Québec, en plus de repartir en Europe pour deux spectacles mémorables, en Suisse et en Belgique.

Suite au malheureux départ de leur batteur, Hamadryad a pris la décision de se réinventer à nouveau et ils ont accueillis deux nouveaux membres. De retour à la formule du quintet, avec le chanteur Jean-Philippe Major et le batteur Nick Turcotte, leur nouvel album “Intrusion”, sortie en Janvier 2010 (UNCR-5071, Unicorn Digital) démontre de façon impressionnante, que le groupe est en constante évolution et que leur passion pour la musique n’a pas diminué d’un cran. Hamadryad a confirmé des spectacles en Europe et planifie de jouer de façon intensive durant 2010 afin de promouvoir ce nouveau CD.
