Since 1986, Canadian band MYSTERY has forged themselves worldwide recognition. It all started with the release of their first CD in 1992, but it would take another four years before the Prog-AOR world discover what MYSTERY is all about. With the release of their first full length CD THEATRE OF THE MIND in 1996, MYSTERY took the Prog-AOR world by surprise. The album being divided in two parts, The Dream and the Reality, delivers great music, strong harmonies and melodies. Critics from all around the world were praising this album.

With the release of DESTINY? in 1998, MYSTERY has placed themselves as one of the best new artist in the Prog-AOR world. The critics were unanimous; MYSTERY had created something of their own and was here to stay. From the title track Destiny? To the 14 minute epic Shadow of the Lake, MYSTERY created the perfect balance between Progressive Rock and AOR, Between Acoustic and Electric, between Analogue and Digital.

The new Millennium arrived with the release of a compilation CD - AT THE DAWN OF A NEW MILLENNIUM- Featuring the best songs released in the 90’s all re-mastered. At the Dawn of a New Millennium is a turning point for MYSTERY, like the end of a chapter, and the beginning of a new era.

Nine years after the release of the world acclaimed album DESTINY? Mystery is finally back with a new album called Beneath the Veil of Winter s Face. The Album is the first full length album featuring new singer Benoit David. Benoit had joined MYSTERY not too long after Gary Savoie left the band and had participated in the recording of Hey You! Performed by Mystery on the Pink Floyd tribute album Signs of Time, released in Germany on the Eclipsed Magazine Label and the song Visions of Paradise, also performed by Mystery on the Moody Blues tribute album Higher and Higher released on the Italian label Mellow Records.

Beneath the Veil of Winter’s Face was recorded and mixed by Michel St-Pere at Studio illusion III in Mirabel Quebec, mastered by Richard Addison at trillium Sound Studios and featuring the beautiful pictures of Julien Roumagnac and graphic designs of Xinema’s drummer, Jonas Eckman. The Band now consisted of Benoit David on vocals, Steve Gagné on drums, Patrick Bourque ( Now living in Nashville and a full time member of the Country band Emerson Drive) on bass and Michel St-Pere on Guitars, Bass and Keyboards. The CD also features Spaced Out’s Antoine Fafard as well as Benoit Pepin on Bass.

The Album was voted Album of the Year on the prestigious Dr.Music website and was in the top 10 best prog album in many magazines and radio shows. While Mystery is preparing the release of the 10th anniversary Edition of the album Destiny and start recording the new album due for the summer of 2009. Singer Benoit David joined legendary prog band YES for the In the Present Tour 2008-2009. MYSTERY also prepares to hit the road in 2009 with an appearance at the Montreal Progressive Rock Festival FMPM2009 with SAGA.

The 2009 Line-up is now a six-piece, with Michel St-Père on guitars, Benoît David on vocals, Steve Gagné on drums, the return of Benoît Dupuis on keyboards, and two new members, Dean Baldwyn on guitar and François Fournier on bass.

On the first of May 2010 the new album One Among the Living was released with a memorable performance atThe Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, PA. USA on the ROSfest opening night.



Formé en 1986 par Michel St-Père alors étudiant à l’institut d’enregistrement TREBAS, le groupe Canadien MYSTERY s’est forgé une solide réputation mondiale.

Un premier mini album en 1992, ignoré de l’industrie Michel ST-Père forme alors sa propre étiquette de disque, Unicorn Records juste à temps pour la sortie en 1996 de l’album Theatre of the Mind. Avec Gary Savoie aux voix, Richard Addison à la basse, Patrick Bourque se joindra au groupe à la fin de l’enregistrement de l’album et Stéphane Perreault à la batterie.

Theatre of the Mind commence à recevoir de bonnes critiques venant de l’Europe; MYSTERY commence alors l’enregistrement de l’album « Destiny? » qui sortira en 1998. Cet album voit l’arrivée de Steve Gagné à la batterie remplaçant Stéphane Perreault qui à cause d’un virus, perdit l’usage de ses jambes ainsi que le bassiste Patrick Bourque qui est désormais le bassiste officiel du groupe.

Avec la sortie de « Destiny? » en 1998, MYSTERY se retrouve soudainement considéré comme l’un des meilleurs nouveaux groupes de Rock Progressif en Europe. Les critiques sont unanimes, Mystery a créé un album unique. De la pièce titre jusqu’à la grandiose pièce de 14 minutes, Shadow of the Lake. Le groupe a créé une balance parfaite entre le Rock Progressif et le AOR, entre l’acoustique et l’électrique et entre l’analogue et le digital. L’album « Destiny? » demeure à ce jour l’un des meilleurs vendeurs de l’étiquette Unicorn Digital. L’album sera aussi publié en France par la maison MUSEA.

Avec le départ de Gary Savoie en 1999, à l’aube d’un nouveau millénaire, MYSTERY publie l’album compilation At the Dawn of a New Millenium. L’album marque la fin d’un chapitre de l’histoire de MYSTERY et le début d’une nouvelle ère pour le groupe. Benoit David se joint alors au groupe, mais il faudra quelques années avant la sortie d’un nouvel album. Michel St-Père se concentrant sur son étiquette de disques, commence en 2000 à faire la promotion d’autres groupes de Rock Progressif. Steve Gagné part en tournée avec Eric Lapointe, France d’Amour et plusieurs autres artistes Québécois, et Patrick Bourque se joint alors au groupe Country Emerson Drive, et déménage à Nashville Tennessee où le groupe obtient un grand succès sur la scène country Américaine.

Néanmoins, Mystery sera de la partie de quelques compilations CD telles DisDURPance Vol3 avec la pièce Beneath the Veil of Winter’s Face, originalement enregistrée mais non retenue pour l’album « Destiny? », la pièce présente le nouveau chanteur Benoît David. Le groupe participe aussi à la compilation Signs of Life-A Tribute to Pink Floyd avec la pièce Hey You! ainsi que sur l’album Higher and Higher-A Tribute to the Moody Blues avec la pièce Visions of Paradise.

Il faudra attendre jusqu’en 2007 pour la sortie de l’album Beneath the Veil of Winter’s Face. Ce nouvel album prendra le monde du Rock Progressif par surprise et sera qualifié du meilleur album Prog de l’année par plusieurs magazines et radios. Alors que plusieurs ne comptaient plus sur un retour éventuel du groupe, MYSTERY reprit sa place dans le monde du Rock Progressif. Ce retour sera attristé par le décès soudain du bassiste Patrick Bourque qui venait juste de se joindre à l’équipe de l’émission de télévision Belle et Bum.

En 2008, alors aussi chanteur pour le groupe hommage à YES, Close to the Edge, Benoit David se joint au légendaire groupe britannique YES pour la tournée In The Present pour remplacer Jon Anderson qui est au repos forcé après des ennuis de santé. Cette Tournée avec YES apporte à MYSTERY une visibilité sans précédent et arrive alors que le magazine Anglais CLASSIC ROCK sort une compilation de rock Progressif avec comme première pièce sur l’album, nulle autre que Travel to the Night de MYSTERY.

« DESTINY? Edition 10ieme anniversaire » sortira en Mars 2009, complètement remixé. MYSTERY travaille aussi à l’enregistrement d’un nouvel album qui devrait voir le jour à l’été 2009. Mystery participera également à la prochaine édition du Festival des Musiques Progressives de Montréal FMPM4 en septembre 2009.
